Harry Ferguson: Tractor Genius

This book is designed to support poor readers by giving them overtly adult material but where the language has been calculated using a reading age scale on a computer program. Read about Ferguson’s innovative engineering invention of the three-point hitch and how it became an international standard for tractors and still remains so today. This was engineering genius at its best. So much so that Henry Ford Senior ( of Ford cars) placed Harry Ferguson alongside the Wright Brothers ( flight), Edison (the light bulb) and Bell (the telephone), it really was that important with 85% of the world’s tractors basing their engineering on his unique ideas. We also read about how the little Grey Fergie saved a town from a disaster and we read of the Scandinavian children’s film franchise `Little Grey Fergie’. The material in this book should be accessible to an year 8 student and as such should be ideal reading material for the vast majority of students in schools and F.E. colleges. This book is in a series on old technology and is specifically designed to develop reading in teenage males. We were asked by a Midlands College to provide something that encouraged young males to read, since they were literally not reading anything.

Harry Ferguson Tractor Genius

Getting People Reading, particularly Men and Boys!

This is an amazing story of how an engineer looked at the way a machine worked and saw a better way, a way that could and did save lives.

Harry Ferguson was an engineering genius. His ability to visualise and build a new system that changed the role of the tractor on the farm, changed farming around the world. His system is still the same system that he developed all those years ago and this book tells the story of how he saved countless farmers lives. We read how the design changed the way how tractors are used on farms. We also hear the effects of the 1930’s Wall St crash on the need for the tractor and how the little grey Fergie saved an Australian town.
The story tells us about the Danish company that has made the tractor a media star and the future for the tractor. Ferguson and his tractor changed the world.
